ISLAMABAD: The Senate will hold its session today to take up the no-confidence motion tabled against the Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwalla.
For the first time in the history of Pakistan, a no-confidence motion has been submitted against the senate chairman, demanding he step aside after only being in office for over a year.
The opposition parties have nominated Hasil Bizenjo as their candidate for the post of chairman Senate. On July 10, the opposition had submitted a resolution of no-confidence against Sanjrani to the Senate Secretariat.
The no-trust motion was signed by 44 senators.
Speaking to media on Wednesday, Biznejo said he had already won the day his name was put forward. He claimed to have the support of 65 opposition senators and suggested Sanjrani to resign. “It would be better for him as well as for us,” he said.
Earlier in the day, senators from the opposition parties continued their meetings to devise a strategy for the upcoming session.
